Delaware Women’s Office Collecting Period Products for Period Poverty Awareness Week
The Delaware Office of Women’s Advancement and Advocacy is teaming up once again with Junior League of Wilmington Delaware to collect women’s period products for Period Poverty Awareness Week. Period Poverty Awareness Week was created to draw attention to the issue of period poverty and the negative impact it has on people who menstruate. In simple terms, it’s to draw awareness to the topic of not having the means to afford period products, which is a basic human right and necessity.
The Delaware Office of Women’s Advancement and Advocacy is encouraging Delawareans to donate female hygiene products in the lobby of the Carvel building in Wilmington. At last year’s OWAA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, guests donated 3,000 period products to the Stand Up. Period. Campaign!
The Carvel building in Wilmington is located at 820 N. French Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
Baby Chicks Were Hatched at the Brandywine Hundred Library
Whether you’re a bookworm or not, the library hatched their newest family members! The Brandywine Hundred Library in Wilmington, Delaware hatched 8 baby chicks and they’re on display for anyone to come and look at them, until tomorrow, April 21st! The chicks have lived at the library for some time now (I just saw them personally for the first time the other day). Library goers were asked to vote on their names. Their names have been selected and there’s an obvious correlation to the new Super Mario movie.
This is the 5th year the Brandywine Hundred Library has had eggs hatched into chicks through the University of Delaware’s Cooperative Extension. The chicks will return to the University of Delaware sometime tomorrow, April 21st.
The Brandywine Hundred Library is located at 1300 Foulk Road in Wilmington, Delaware. The library has many other programs for children, teen, families, and senior citizens, available to the public for free. There is also a public park surrounding the property of the Brandywine Hundred Library, known as Talley Day Park.
For more information and to sign up for a free library card, visit any Delaware Library or visit their website.
