We are always in search of that new local gem.
When it comes to eating local is king. Local chefs, local farms, and locally sourced ingredients are on the top of our minds.
Well you won’t have to look far to eat some of the best local foods in America.
Baltimore came in 2nd on the newly published list of “Best Cities to Eat Local Food.”
The list put out by Lawnstarter used multiple factors to come out with their rankings.
“We looked for cities with great access to community-supported agriculture (CSAs), u-pick farms, local dairy farms, and on-farm markets. We also considered the number of local food movement groups, among 17 metrics.”
Lawnstarter also highlighted some farm-to-table restaurant’s in the Baltimore are that helped the city place high in the rankings.
The first is Gertrude’s. Gertrude’s serves locally sourced farm-fresh food that preserves Chesapeake culinary traditions.
They also highlighted Maggie’s Farm. Maggie’s Farm is committed to supporting local farms, businesses and charities.
In regard to other local and drivable cities, the East Coast fairs very well.
Lawnstarter found that “Mid-Atlantic cities Baltimore (No. 2), Alexandria, Virginia (No. 3), and Washington (No. 4), sprout to the top of our ranking with high Access and Support for eating local. Alexandria and Washington tie with Philadelphia (No. 21) for the most on-farm markets within 50 miles. Baltimore boasts the best Convenience with the second-highest number of both on-farm pickup and delivery options.”
Philadelphia has the most on farm markets within 50 miles in the entire country. Baltimore came in 5th in that category.
No Delaware cities placed within the top 200.
