This holiday weekend is widely celebrate with families around the world. Each family and faith has their own tradition of foods for Easter or Passover.
The general consensus for the main entree seems to be ham. Grocery stores everywhere offer rewards points for FREE hams once you hit a certain amount of purchases.
Growing up in an Italian-Irish family I have been lucky enough to experience different kinds of cuisine.
My Italian grandmother would make sausage pie and cheese pie every Easter. Sausage pie always sounds weird to people who have never had it. It’s essentially a casserole. Layers of pie crust, dry sausage, farmers cheese, boiled egg and prosciutto are all baked together to make one dense meal. I could eat that for breakfast lunch and dinner.
Next, her ricotta cheese pie was the most deliciously semi-sweet and decadent dessert. A cheesecake made of mostly ricotta just crumbled in your mouth.
I realize these are unique to the Italian culture.
One thing I remember from my Irish relatives is Irish potatoes- which actually aren’t potatoes. They’re sugary coconut and cream rolled into an oblong ball and coated in cinnamon. They are the sweetest little treat!
What’s on your table and other tables across the country?

Ham and Lamb both take the cake for main entrees on Easter and Passover.
