What do Pretty Woman, Competitive Poker, Schools and Opera Delaware all have in common?
Opera Delaware is making big moves in an effort to bring in diverse audiences.
Their goal? To convince EVERYONE that Opera is for them.
When you think of the opera you most likely think what your neighbor is thinking. “Isn’t it in another language? Will I understand any of it? Don’t I have to dress up? I don’t think I can afford it.”
Well, Opera Delaware is here to bust all those beliefs.
Kerriann Otano visited the WJBR studios today to have a little fun with Deanna and Justin In The Morning.
You can hear their fun segment on jingles below:

Opera Delaware has two big focuses going on right now.
They are offering free pop-ups in schools. If you are interested in a fun, interactive way to get your students excited about the arts, have Opera Delaware show up!
They are taking the opera to local schools in their big red truck, with bubbles and tshirt launchers!
In addition to the exciting work they are doing with kids, they offer fun for the adults as well.
La Traviata, the story based on Moulin Rouge and Pretty Woman is set to open at Opera Delaware at the end of March.

Delaware's Aubrey Plaza Got Parks And Rec Role by 'Acting Weird'
Delaware’s Aubrey Plaza Got Parks And Rec Role by ‘Acting Weird’!
WJBR is proud to be Delaware and proud of our own Aubrey Plaza!
If you did not know, Aubrey was born here in Wilmington in 1984 and is a Ursuline Academy graduate.
Most recently Aubrey has received rave reviews on her role as Harper on the HBO hit ‘The White Lotus”, but her first widespread claim to fame was her break through role as April on NBC’s ‘Parks and Recreation’.
Aubrey recently opened up about auditioning for producer Mike Schur for her ‘Parks And Recreation’ role and how she landed the gig. In an interview with The New Yorker spoke about her audition that she did not think was an audition…
“I had no idea that was even an audition. I was wearing jean shorts and just acting weird, according to Mike Schur. I don’t know what I was doing that was weird; I just didn’t know how meaningful the meeting was.”
Aubrey continued,
“Schur ‘always says, like, ‘And then I met the weirdest person I’ve ever met when she walked in.’ And I’m still, like, ‘What did I do that was so weird, other than just be myself?'”
“All I remember is that I was a huge fan of The Office, the meeting was on the set of The Office, and I kept seeing Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak walk by. I was, like, ‘Oh, my God. They’re on The Office. I couldn’t believe it. Because I had never been on set like that before. . . . so I was distracted.”
When the New Yorker asked her about being the “most famous person from Delaware” she responded…
“Yeah, the News Journal, which is a Delaware newspaper, did an online poll: “Who’s the most famous person in Delaware?” And I won! I beat Joe—this was before he was the President, but he didn’t get second place. He got, like, sixth place. It was me, maybe Valerie Bertinelli, and Henry Heimlich, the guy who created the Heimlich maneuver. I’m pretty sure it was us three. Or Judge Reinhold—also from Delaware. Ryan Phillippe. I could go on.”
Keep on “acting weird” Aubrey, and keep on making us Delaware Proud!
