Delaware Drinks The 2nd Most Alcohol In The Country
A study revealed that Delaware drinks the 2nd most alcohol in the country….kind of.
The first state finishes behind New Hampshire.
Delawareans drink approximately 4.01 gallons of alcohol in ethanol per capita per year.
People in New Hampshire drink approximately 4.83 gallons of alcohol in ethanol per capita per year.
So what exactly is ethanol?
Ethanol is made by fermentation of sugar or by the hydration of ethene. Ethanol is commonly found in households in the form of alcoholic beverages.
According to Drink IQ “Spirits have the highest concentration of alcohol and most contain around 40% ABV. Strength can vary considerably, however. Some vodkas contain 30% ethanol, while some bourbons may be around 60% ABV and certain ‘high proof’ spirits can have up to 95% alcohol content.”
Vine Pair conducted the study and made some conclusions about America’s consumtption.
Of the 50 states and Washington D.C., New Hampshire reports the most booze drunk per capita, with approximately 4.83 gallons consumed per year. However, it’s important to note that due to the state’s lack of sales tax, a number of these gallons are consumed by folks from neighboring states who cross over into New Hampshire to take advantage of cheaper prices.
The small New England state also enjoys the most beer and spirits per capita, while Washington, D.C., consumes the most wine. Predictably, Utah — the state with the strictest booze laws in America — consumes the least amount of alcohol per capita (1.36 gallons).
California consumes the most total gallons of alcohol per year. They consume 85.7 million gallons which is substantially higher than second place.
Texas consumes 56.9 millions gallons per year. As stated above this is because of how dense their populations are.
In comparison Delaware consumes 3.3 millions gallons a year ranking it at 40th out of the 50 states.
It’s ALL relative. Find the full study and data here.
