A Delaware and Maryland restaurant scene staple the Greene Turtle has reopened in Newark.

The new location is just a few minutes from it’s old Green Turtle location in Newark.

The new digs are located at 211 S. Main St. in the Park and Shop mixed-use center.

The grand re-opening was held on January 27th.

“In 1981, college buddies Steve Pappas and Tommy Dickerson bought Ocean City English-style pub, The Greene Turtle, and transformed it into a beloved sports bar. In 1986, with the help of another college buddy, Billy Packo, owners Pappas and Dickerson opened a Greene Turtle in Baltimore’s popular Fells Point neighborhood. In 2022 a rapid expansion of the franchise led to 30 more Mid-Atlantic locations opening their doors” according to their website.

The Green Turtle mascot was onsite for the grand opening and guests were treated to tons of stuff. The first 50 guests in line received goodie bags.

According to Patch “The Greene Turtle will close out the festivities by giving away six suite tickets to enjoy a NBA Game at Captital One Arena this season. Guests must register in-person for the raffle, but don’t have to be present to win. Raffles and prizes will be given out to all guests between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.”

The Green Turtle remains community oriented. Non-profits, sports teams and leagues, civic associations and clubs, schools, and related programs can all use their locations for fundraising events.

Funds 4 Friends partners invite their constituents, members, family and friends to The Greene Turtle to dine and help fundraise on their behalf. Partner organization receives 20% of net sales.

Community organizations can also co-brand Greene Turtle Gear with their logo! All revenue from apparel, t-shirts, and hoodies sales stays with that community group.

Where To Shop For Your Throwback Eagles Gear

With each passing day it seems like vintage Birds gear gets more and more popular! So the question is: Where to shop for your throwback Eagles gear?

Birds fans have become attached to the “new” colors as some still continue to say. The Midnight Green era of the Eagles came with some pushback in 1996.

The switch saw an ushering in of a new uniform and what is arguably the most successful span of Eagles football, but fans still love the classic Kelly Green color scheme.

Luckily for those fans the NFL is switching certain rules for the 2023-2024 season allowing for the Birds to rotate back in a throwback uniform for a few games.

According to CBS Sports “The uniforms will debut in 2023, when the Eagles have a Kelly green alternate helmet to match the jersey. The uniforms will debut in 2023, when the Eagles have a Kelly green alternate helmet to match the jersey.”

Fans still show up to tailgates, parties, even work proudly rocking the Kelly Green vintage feeling clothing.

I personally love throwback gear, but love supporting local businesses while doing so.

So here are some local businesses where you can grab some throwback Eagles gear as the Birds make another run to the big game:

Rare VNTG was founded in 2013. Since then the Philly based business has specialized in hard-to-find vintage sportswear. They’ve traveled the world in search of the most elusive pieces, hoping to share their passion and love for vintage with you all.

The "Rare Vntg Story" begins with my dad. At age 8, my grandfather brought my dad home a Detroit Red Wings jersey, and well the rest is history! Pops was hooked on jerseys! His collection grew throughout high-school and college.

  • Golden Bear Garage

Besides being a great follow on Instagram, Golden Bear has some of the rarest pieces out there. His ETSY shop is full of stuff you won’t find anywhere else.

We are city kids from Philly , who always loved getting the rare gear that no one else had. Grew up in hardworking Middle class families. Always looked forward to getting our older cousins hand me down clothes. Have always had a love for Flea Markets, haggling people at a young age to get great deals on cool stuff.
