Philly Airport Welcomes Armadillos and Lizards
Flying can be BORING. But its getting a little more exciting as this Philly airport welcomes armadillos and lizards.
Now you can waste time drinking mimosas and hanging with marsupials at PHL in 2023.
If you are one of those people who gets to the airport 5 hours early like me, this is perfect for you!
The Philadelphia Zoo and the Philadelphia International Airport have teamed up to bring wildlife to jetsetters.
According to the Zoo’s website “Guests might get to meet a nine-banded armadillo who loves to eat mealworms; a rainbow boa whose skin refracts light and creates a rainbow-colored effect; blue and gold macaws who love to snack on sunflower seeds; and red-footed tortoises whose conservation status is vulnerable due to overhunting.”
Each month, The Philadelphia Zoo team will bring in ambassador animals to teach (and surprise!) travelers as they wait for their flight, grab something to eat, or simply travel from security to their gate.
The partnership began before the pandemic but was put on hold.
The Zoo’s education team says the encounters they have had during this program have been amazing. Some families even said their long layovers were worth it because of these ambassador animals!
These appearances will take place on the stage across from the food court between terminals B and C.
The Zoo team will be at PHL on the following dates:
Thursday, 12/22 @ 1-3 p.m.
Thursday, 1/19 @1-3 p.m.
Thursday, 2/16 @1-3 p.m.
Thursday, 3/16 @1-3 p.m.
Thursday, 4/6 @1-3 p.m.
Thursday, 5/11 @1-3 p.m.
Philadelphia Zoo, America’s first zoo, is renowned for innovation in animal care and unwavering commitment to wildlife. A zoo of firsts, Philadelphia Zoo has been a leader since opening its historic gates on July 1, 1874. Now they are at the airport waiting for you!
