There’s just too many stories lately of people hitting close to home and us not being one of them. This $1.2 Million Lottery Ticket Sold In Montco is no exception.
The Pennsylvania Lottery Cash 5 with Quick Cask ticket was sold on New Years Day. The drawing matched all five balls drawn. The winning numbers were 4-24-29-34-36, according to Montco Today.
The total winnings were $1,293,786.00 The Giant grocery store on Knapp Road in North Wales sold the winning ticket.
The store will receive a $10,000 bonus.
In the same week, a $1million scratch off was sold at the Wawa in Flourtown.
More than 22,500 other Cash 5 with Quick Cash tickets won prizes in the same drawing.
The last time a winning lotto ticket worth a substantial amount was sold in Montco, the ticket almost expired. Back in September of 2021 a winning ticket worth $100,000 was sold by Wawa on Dekalb Pike. The ticket matched 4 of the balls drawn and the powerball number.
Almost a year later, in August of 2022, the ticket had still gone unclaimed. By law, any unclaimed and expired lottery prizes will remain in the Lottery Fund and are used to support programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians.
Some lotteries give players only 90 to 180 days to come forward, but the Pennsylvania Lottery can be claimed up to one year from the drawing date.
This could leave a lot of winning tickets in limbo. Ultimately, the unclaimed cash will go to a great cause, benefiting our elderly. But for the winner who never got their prize, it leaves us all wondering how? Or why?
Players are encouraged to check every ticket, every time by using the self-service scanners found at the retail. Ticket holders can also check with the Ticket Checker on the Lottery’s Official App.
As an insurance, you should also always sign the tickets immediately for proof of ownership.
Good luck next time you play and don’t forget to check those tickets! You wouldn’t want to leave any cash unclaimed.
