Delaware Raises Minimum Wage In 2023
A new year full of new financial possibilities as Delaware raises minimum wage in 2023.
The year 2023 opened with Delaware raising it’s minimum wage by $1.25.
As the first state approaches the $15 an hour wage, Delawareans will see a new minimum wage of $11.75 an hour.
According to Delaware Business Times “The post-COVID labor market shortage has driven many employers around the state to raise their minimum wages well above $11.75 though – often around $18 to $20 an hour – even with no advanced degrees or prior work experience. According to current job ads, those include some of the most common entry-level jobs like McDonald’s, which is hiring around the state at $14 an hour; Amazon, hiring at $18 or more; and Target, hiring at $15.25 an hour, among others.”
Twenty-three states raised their minimum wage to start 2023. Delaware will see an increase in minimum wage to $15 an hour in 2025.
Delaware’s minimum hourly wage will increase incrementally on January 1 of the next three years, to $11.75 in 2023, $13.25 in 2024, and $15.00 in 2025.
MSN reports that the wage hike across the country will have an impact on many.
“The minimum wage increases will benefit people across the United States from rural and urban states. About 54.9% of the affected workers are 25 years old and older, of which 44.8% work full-time. While folks who only hold a high school diploma are the group most likely to be affected, 40.9% have some college experience.”
The increase in minimum wage in Delaware will pan out to $470 a weel for someone who works 40 hour. That in turn means that person will make just over $24,000 for the year.
Delaware employers may not pay you under $11.75 per hour unless you or your occupation are specifically exempt from the minimum wage under state or federal law.
