Missing Boaters Were Found Off The Delaware Coast
In what seems like a movie plot … missing boaters were found off the Delaware coast.
Missing boaters who left Cape May last month have finally been located alive.
According to 6ABC “According to the United States Coast Guard, 65-year-old Kevin Hyde, 76-year-old Joe Ditomasso and a dog named “Minnie” were found 214 miles east of Delaware on Tuesday. The men are being taken to New York for evaluation. The boaters set sail on the vessel “Atrevida II” from Utsch’s Marina in Cape May on Nov. 26.”
Family member lost contact with the travelers at the beginning of December as they passed by North Carolina.
The vessel was found with no fuel and no power.
This rendered the navigation and radios useless.
According to the Press of Atlantic City “Coast Guard, Navy and maritime partners searched a combined 21,164 square miles of water, spanning from northern Florida to the waters east of New Jersey, the Coast Guard said.”
The boaters were found after waving a red flag Tuesday afternoon and spotted by a nearby tanker and fortunately did not have any medical concerns at the time.
The missing boaters were scheduled to be picked up Wednesday around 2 p.m. in New York.
The United State Coast Guard stress safety to anyone who decides to travel by sea.
Boats.com says “All sailors who go out on the water, no matter how large or small their boats, are required by law to carry minimum safety equipment. These requirements can be enforced by the Coast Guard, should you be boarded for a random safety inspection, or by state boating safety officers or by a locality’s marine police. Should you fail to carry the minimum safety equipment, you can be cited by the boarding officers and given either a warning or, in the worst cases, you can be fined.”
