Last minute Christmas shopping in Delaware has arrived!

People like you and me who have not started just yet are way in the minority.

My only excuse as to why I have not started is that I have always been motived by deadline pressure.  Some would say I’m a procrastinator.

It’s not like playing Christmas music on WJBR is a 6 week reminder to start shopping or anything!  Haha

My car was due for inspection at the end of November.  I got that done today, about 15 days too late.  However I took a lot of backroads and avoided a costly violation.

Like with an over due auto inspection, there is not grace a period with getting your Christmas shopping done on time.  (This too would be a costly violation, much more costly than an overdue car inspection!)

The 25th will be here on the 25th no matter what!  The Grinch can’t stop it!  No one can!

Fortunately I have an awesome wife who starts by summer’s end.  She has always taken care of the kids gifts, and really for everyone else we gifts to.

I am only responsible for buying gifts for her!  I’m lucky and don’t have to play a guessing game, or read between the lines for a gift idea.  She knows me well and tells me exactly the stores she loves.  I plan to start and finish my last minute Christmas shopping in Delaware this weekend.

If you do last minute Christmas shopping in Delaware, you are just among almost just 10% who start in December.

This past summer, Bankrate, a consumer financial services company conducted a survey that found that half of holiday shoppers began by Halloween.  They also discovered that only 2 in 5 shoppers will let this year’s inflation affect their shopping decisions.

Bankrate asked the question: When did you start or plan to start your winter holiday shopping this year?

8% said by the end of August

11% answered September

18% started in October

28% (the majority) started in November.  (that’s because that’s when WJBR starts playing Christmas music!)

…and only 9% start in December!

Personally, I enjoy being in the kitchen with family cooking up traditional recipes during the holidays.  I enjoy baking cookies, making my corn casserole and supplying the appetizers for our family.  But, that’s me.  Not everyone likes to spend their time at home, much less behind the stove.  It does take a toll after being on your feet all day for a meal that really only ends up lasting about 15 minutes or so.

Or maybe you do enjoy cooking, but your Christmas Eve plans call for take out or going out to dinner.  If you’re one of those people looking for a place to grab a bite to eat on Christmas Eve, look no further.

We’ve put together a list of Delaware Restaurants Open On Christmas Eve.  Most of the restaurants on the list are chains, but there are some local places offering meals too.

As always, it’s a good idea to reach out to your nearest location before going in to be sure your locally owned restaurant is open and not operating on their own holiday hours.
