It’s coming, are you prepared? Could Delaware see it’s first snowfall this week?
Grab your scrapers, your gloves, hats, and boots…there’s a chance we could see some snowfall this week.
According to Delaware Online “A storm over the Southwestern United States was expected to move through the Rockies and across the central Plains on Monday before extending Thursday into the upper Midwest and possibly impacting the South in the latter part of the week, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey. With it, the storm will bring heavy snowfall, strong winds, freezing rain, severe thunderstorms and the possibility of flooding and tornadoes to various parts of the country.”
The snowfall would most likely not occur until Thursday but heavy cold rain is currently predicted at 99% for the area.
The rain will tarnish Friday and might put a damper on the beginning of your weekend.
New Castle County should expect to see precipitation. Freezing rain and rain are expected over the last two days of the week with temperatures only hitting the low 40’s
Kent County can expect much of the same with a chance of precipitation at 90%. Sussex County will experience much of the same!
So will the rush on bread and milk start this week? I did hear on 6ABC that there is a possibility of a white Christmas this year!
According to Fox29 “a coastal storm will move through the area on Thursday, bringing rain or snow to the Delaware Valley depending on the temperature. The rain will last into Friday evening and taper out just in time for a sunny, but cold weekend. ”
The State of Delaware has issued some winter storm tips including:
- Winter storms can be deadly, with many fatalities indirectly or directly linked to them: exposure to cold, traffic accidents on icy roads, cardiac events from shoveling snow, or fires from space heaters.
- Winter weather can range from moderate snow over a few hours to a blizzard with blinding, wind-driven snow lasting for several days. Many winter storms are also accompanied by dangerously low temperatures and strong winds, icing, sleet, and freezing rain.
- Being prepared and staying informed can reduce the likelihood of negative consequences of winter weather.
