Pennsylvania Homeless Crisis Receives Federal Funding
It’s no secret that homelessness has plagued so many areas for way too long. Everywhere we go, especially in major cities we see the homeless population on the street. It becomes more difficult to witness in the harsh winter months.
As we see housing costs rise and interest rates fluctuate, it seems there may be little to no relief or hope for affordable housing.
Many of us find ourselves asking “how can we combat the homeless crisis?”. It’s tough to answer that.
If you are the kind of person who is always paying attention, you try your best to hand a dollar to someone begging on a street corner or buy a meal for someone camped out under a bridge. But sometimes, we’re not always in a position to help others because we’re too busy trying to keep our own heads afloat.
It isn’t always easy to see the housing crisis affect so many people but it’s even worse when we don’t know how to stop it.
However, federal funds are being given to the state of Pennsylvania through the Emergency Solutions Grant Program. Hopefully, this will help to alleviate some of the stress that communities are feeling with the homelessness they see daily.
$5.8 million will be distributed to several counties in Pennsylvania. Street outreach and emergency shelters will benefit from the funds, helping to alleviate some of the overwhelming influx they have felt recently.
Rapid housing is a major focus. This enables fold living on the street or in shelters to get into an apartment that can eventually become permanent. With winter just around the corner, these funds are more important than ever.
Officials are concerned with people that also may be falling behind on bills and may be on the verge of homelessness.
Ultimately, the hope is that these funds will address a variety of issues. Find out more on the grant at https://dced.pa.gov/programs/emergency-solutions-grant-esg/
