It’s that time of year! Get ready for the Sounds of the Season with Choir School of Delaware.

The annual holiday concert is back. You can welcome the holidays with your family and favorite Christmas classics. Enjoy the musical stylings of the choir which is comprised of professional musicians, volunteer adults and students alike.

After the concert, there will be a light reception for everyone.

The main event takes place on Sunday, December 11th at 4pm. The Grace United Methodist Church located at 900 Washington Street in Wilmington will host the concert.

Tickets for general admission are $35, kids under 18 are FREE. Discounts are offered for seniors, military and college students.

Sounds of the Season is the second concert for the Choir School’s Jubilee Concert Season and marks the 25th anniversary of their award winning after-school program. It also marks the 140th anniversary of the intergenerational choir.

Ticket proceeds will directly support the Choir School’s programs.

After School Program

For students ages 7 – 17 in the greater Wilmington, Delaware area with a focus on professional musical training, leadership and language skills, academic support, and college-bound mentoring.

Musical Theater Summer Camp

The Choir School’s annual Musical Theater Summer Camp connects youth to arts education opportunities and combats summer learning loss. Camp operates Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm, for five weeks in June and July. Students put on a fully-staged musical, performed on the last weekend in July.

Programming includes the musical production, training in theater, music, and dance, academic instruction from, professional educators, PSAT/SAT preparation, science experiments, arts and crafts, and field trips. Past musicals include Once on This Island (2022) and Sister Act (2021). Summer camp is offered at no cost to families.

Two Free Family Holiday Events In Delaware This December

It’s that time of year again, when we are all looking for something fun and festive to do.  Sure, there are plenty of holiday events going on around the Delaware area, but many of them have a price tag to get in.  Of course, you can always drive around and look at Christmas lights for free.  And who doesn’t love that year after year tradition?

But, we thought we would share two free family holiday events in Delaware this December.

“Our holiday open houses are a perfect way to kick-off the holiday season,” said County Executive Meyer. “These free community events – going on more for more than two decades are a proud tradition New Castle County is proud to host year after year.”

So what are these two free events?  Rockwood’s Holiday Open House and Holiday Celebration and Market at Glasgow Park in Bear.  You can learn all about both events down below.

  • Rockwood's Holiday Open House

    Rockwood’s Holiday Open House is held on December 2 and December 3 from 5 to 9 p.m. each evening. Admission is free as is the park and ride located at nearby Rockwood Office Park at 501 Carr Road. Rockwood Park & Museum is located at 4651 Washington Street Extension, Wilmington, DE 19802. Rockwood tours are free in December.

    In its 22nd year, the Holiday Open House at Rockwood continues the tradition with festive lights in the gardens, free photos with Santa, mini train rides, local music and dance performances in the Carriage House and Museum and more. The 2022 holiday display in the mansion is inspired by Rockwood Park’s historic arboretum and includes a dozen decorated trees celebrating the 170-year legacy of the arboretum and gardens.

    Holiday Open House is not your only opportunity to enjoy the holiday lights and museum display at Rockwood. Museum tours are free throughout December and there are evening hours when you visit during Winter Nights at Rockwood. The holiday lights will be on display in the park through the new year.

  • Holiday Celebration and Market at Glasgow Park in Bear

    On Friday, December 9 at 6 p.m., a historic dairy farm sets the scene for the Holiday Celebration and Market at Glasgow Park in Bear. A large, decorated tree sits atop a mound awaiting tree lighting. In the quaint barn, dozens of local artisans sell unique gifts and treats for the whole family. Outdoors you can take a ride around the farmhouse on the Toyland Train and take a selfie with Santa under the pavilion.  Enjoy food trucks, make a holiday craft, and watch wonderful local school ensembles and choruses perform on the stage.

     

    Families are encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items to donate to the Food Bank at a drive coordinated by the Glasgow High School Air Force JROTC.

     

    The Holiday Celebration and Market is held on December 9 and December 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. each evening. Admission is free. Free parking on site. Glasgow Park is located at 2275 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702.
