Northbound I-95 Closures In Delaware This Weekend

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) informed us in a press release, that paving, striping and related work will result in closures this weekend.  The I-495 split and Exit 8, US 202 Interchange will require the closure of I-95 Northbound through Wilmington.  The work will begin on Thursday, October 27 at 9pm.

In addition, at least one on ramp to I-95 Northbound (either from 10th St./Adams St. or Delaware Avenue) will be available at all times during this closure. Motorists traveling on I-95 from south of the work zone will be detoured to I-495 Northbound.

Here are Northbound I-95 Closures In Delaware This Weekend, pending weather:

  • I-95 Northbound OVERNIGHT CLOSURE –  9PM Thursday, October 27 to 5 AM Friday, October 28 between the I-495 split and Exit 8, US 202 Interchange.
  • I-95 Northbound WEEKEND CLOSURE –  9PM Friday, October 28 through 5AM Monday, October 31 between the I-495 split and Exit 8, US 202 Interchange.

Additionally, motorists will be directed to use I-495 Northbound as detour.  When I-95 northbound re-opens on Monday, October 31st, expect MLK Boulevard on ramps to I-95 and Jackson Street on ramp to I-95 southbound to remain closed.  All lanes on northbound I-95 will be OPEN.

 

So, while you’re out and about this Halloween weekend, be sure to check on the best travel options.  Be careful out there this weekend.

Top 5 Cars For Delaware Teens

Getting your license is a rite of passage and Kelley Blue Book recently released their Top 5 Cars For Delaware Teens.

KBB has released their list of the Best Cars for Teens: The List Every Parent Needs. The list includes the safest cars for new and teen drivers.

According to KBB “In the United States, the fatal crash rate per mile driven for 16 to 19-year-olds is nearly three times the rate for drivers ages 20 and older. The most significant risk is at ages 16 and 17. In 2020, 60% of deaths among passenger vehicle occupants ages 16 to 19 were drivers of the vehicle. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), motor-vehicle crashes are the second leading cause of death for U.S. teens. In 2019, nearly 2,400 teens age 13-19 in the U.S. lost their lives in crashes. That’s an average of roughly seven per day.”

KBB also says that all cars aren’t equal when it comes to teen drivers. “While newer models will likely offer more advanced safety features and driver assists than older models, a new car’s price may not be realistic for many families. When you plan your budget for a vehicle, it may also be wise to factor in the potential cost of repair and bodywork” according to KBB.
