Ursuline Academy Receives $1.75 Million Gift From Local Family.
The McConnell family has been attending Ursuline Academy for three decades. The first group of McConnell children went to the Academy in the 90s. They have such strong ties to the school that they decided to give back.
The school received a $1.75 million gift from the family. The funds will go toward several initiatives. There will be a tuition assistance program for Lower School children which will also support the Innovation program that the family helped to establish back in 2016. The Paul and Linda McConnell Young Scholars program will provide a total of $250,000 in tuition assistance.
Another $1 million will be set aside to endow the scholars program and The $500,000 will help to expand the Innovation program mentioned above.
Paul McConnell is a commercial real estate developer in Delaware. Paul noted “as longstanding members of the Ursuline family, we have seen the impact the school has had on the lives of its students.” Paul and Trisha hope their gift inspires others to give and help provide financial security for the academy for years to come.
The Biz Kids Innovation program will create opportunities for students focused on things like: entrepreneurial mindset and developments, business creation, financial literacy and responsibility, media and communications and branding and graphic design.
Because of this program, Ursuline was one of the first schools to participate in the University of Delaware’s EntreX Program for High School entrepreneurs. Since the program launched, their students have earned accolades and awards in the Diamond Challenge, a worldwide pitch competition for social and business innovation ideas.
