Check-in began at 8am on the brisk Saturday Morning this past weekend.
Our very own Deanna Marie welcomed the heart walk participants and thanks everyone for being there. She introduced Dr. Christian Pizarro, Director of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery and Co-Director of Nemours Children’s Cardiac Center. Dr. Pizarro expressed his appreciation for everyone’s support. Dr. Pizzaro walks in honor of his patients with congenital heart disease and their families.
According to Dr. Pizzaro, thanks to the important and ongoing work of the AHA, heart defects can be detected as early as 12 weeks into pregnancy and surgically repaired, if necessary. Today, children with congenital heart disease can live full and active lives as adults.
The American Heart & Stroke Association is working tirelessly to advance cardiovascular health for all, including identifying and removing barriers to quality health care access by 2024. This means addressing the social determinants of health that face many under resourced communities.

The Altemus family have hosted this event for ten years in loving memory of their late son Eric, who passed away at the young age of 27 from a cardiac issue. The Altemus Family created the tournament to keep Eric’s positive energy alive through one of his favorite activities.
Lastly, the Middletown High School ROTC came out for a salute and Deanna Marie sang our Nation’s Anthem.
