Deanna Marie Goes Skydiving
Deanna Marie Goes Skydiving!
Yes, this is an article about how Deanna Marie goes skydiving. But it doesn’t start there.
All my life I thought I was a daredevil. I was always intrigued by anything that gave me an adrenaline rush. As a teenager, I took my allowance to the Wildwood Boardwalk and hopped on the bungee fly over the beach without hesitation. The thrill of doing something even slightly dangerous was so exciting. But things changed drastically as I got older.
How This Year Changed My Appetite For Adventure
Back in April of 2022, I was asked to participate in a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Delaware. Of course I was thrilled to be a part of the event because of my passion for philanthropic work.
I love giving back to the community and helping those around me. This event was much different than anything I had experienced. I was expected to rappel a 17 story building in the middle of busy downtown Wilmington, Delaware.
There would be a live Youtube stream of the entire event, cars and people going by, Facebook coverage, the whole deal. I was excited and a little nervous, as anyone would be with an activity they’ve never done before.
I checked in, got my swag bag, went through instruction and a quick training, made my way to the roof and strapped up. And then, my biggest nightmare happened. It was my turn to rappel. I stood on the ledge with Hollywood Kyle…and I froze.
I couldn’t bring myself to move, demonstrate any of what I just learned and I started crying. Luckily, we are being led by professionals who do this all the time. They talked me out of my nerves and I eventually went down the side of the building and made it to safety.
Fast Forward To “What In The Wheel?!”
Needless to say my past experience a few months ago changed my excitement for all things dangerous. The girl who used to want to jump out of a plane was all of a sudden too scared to even climb a ladder.
But, the show must go on. Myself, Justin and Hollywood Kyle have held brainstorming sessions to bring you the best of what we’ve got. We made lists of things we’ve always wanted to do and skydiving was one of mine.
With the help of our amazing team, we finally made it happen…kinda.
We went to iFly in King of Prussia and I faced my fears.
The team there is so helpful and knowledgeable. They are indoor flying experts! They walked us through each step, quizzed us on hand gestures to help direct us once in the tunnel, and took us for the ride of our lives!
I highly recommend iFLY for anyone out there who may be considering skydiving. It is a great place to start, and who knows? You may decide (like me) that it’s just enough and you don’t necessarily need to go jumping out of a plane.
So in the end, Deanna Marie goes skydiving…just indoors.
