Delaware Memorial Bridge Is Partially Closed
Seems like traffic is constantly on the tip of tongue. Be aware the Delaware Memorial Bridge is partially closed until mid-November.
The bridge will see a new driving surface put in over the next few months.
According to FOX the project will shave off the top 2 inches of the Northbound lanes. The surface will now be an ultra high performance concrete.
According to FOX “In the first phase of the project, two lanes of the Delaware side of the bridge will be closed to traffic, with a third lane shut down overnight. The remaining two lanes will be open to traffic, as well as a bypass lane that will divert traffic around the construction. The bypass lane will only be for traffic headed to the New Jersey Turnpike.”
This phase of the project should run until mid November.
The second phase of the project will begin February 1st of 2023. The second phase is scheduled to wrap up on May 25, 2023. This phase will see the left two lanes close for the entire length of the bridge.
The third phase will begin about a year from now on September 5, 2023 and wrap up November 21, 2023. This phase will see the right two lanes of the bridge close on the New Jersey side.
According to DelawareMemorialBridge.com “Two lanes on the New Jersey-bound structure will be closed to traffic throughout each overlay placement period – with an additional third lane shut down during the overnight hours. The remaining lanes on the New Jersey bound structure will be open to traffic. ”
The site also says activity associated with this project will not year round. The project will suspended during winter months and the peak travel times during the summer.
