Delaware Drivers Making Lifestyle Changes

Gas prices are coming down at the moment, however drivers have already changed their daily driving habits because of the constant battle with high gas prices.
Over the past few weeks Delaware gas prices have dropped from near $5 a gallon to what is now approaching less than $4 a gallon.
In a check of gas prices as of August 4, 2022 these are among the cheapest gas prices in the Wilmington area:
  • $3.97 Speedway Kirkwood Highway Wilmington
  • $3.98 King Star Gas in Lancaster Ave Wilmington
  • $4.00 BP Philadelphia Pike Wilmington
  • $4.10 Speedy Gass Philadelphia Pike Wilmington

Even with prices coming down, the damage to our wallets has been done.

Many drivers are just not driving as much according to a new study from AAA.

Among the finds of the survey:
  • A new AAA survey found that 88% of respondents were driving less or canceling travel plans.
  • 74% are combining their errands.
  • 56% are dining out less often.
  • 30% are putting off major purchases due to higher gas prices.
  • 29% have put off vacations this year.
  • Nearly one-fourth said they had made “major” lifestyle changes because of fuel prices.

I’m not sure if I agree with 29% putting off vacation.   The traffic down Delaware Route 1 to the Delaware Beaches seems as busy as ever!

AAA has the following recommendations on how to drive more efficiently and save those fuel dollars:

  • Keep your vehicle in top shape. Be sure your tires are properly inflated.
  • Avoid peak traffic times.
  • Fuel economy peaks at around 50 mph on most cars, then drops off as speeds increase. Reducing highway speeds by 5 to 10 mph can improve fuel economy by as much as 14%
