Today (July 25, 2022) marks the 8th day of the first heat wave of the summer of 2022.
A heat wave is defined as 3 or more days with temperatures over 90 degrees.
The current heat wave started last Monday July 18th with each day getting hotter than the day before until until yesterday Sunday July 24. Yesterday, many areas in Delaware topped off in the high 90s leading to packed pools and the biggest beach weekend of the year so far.
Monitoring todays weather, most temps in Delaware topped out in the high 80s in the 2pm hour. Wilmington and New Castle were the warmest towns in our area and hit 90 today.
The heat wave is being broken by thunderstorms rolling through our area between now an 10pm. We currently have a server thunderstorm watch in effect until 10pm. We are monitoring if any of those watches become warnings.
A cold front brings us those storms this afternoon. That will cool the area with temperatures back in the 80s starting tomorrow July 26th.
The warmest day of the week will be Thursday when we are forecast to hit 90. The rest of the days will be in the mid to upper 80s. Of the two days this coming weekend, Saturday looks to be the better day with partly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 80s.
