Food Bank Of Delaware Hosts Mobile Food Pantries
The Food Bank of Delaware is hosting mobile food pantries this week in an effort to feed more Delaware residents. The mobile pantry travels to underserved communities to delivery shelf-stable and perishable foods. This is part of the Food Bank’s efforts to serve residents closer to their homes. According to The Food Bank website, the truck comes filled with nonperishables, fresh produce, dairy, beverages and other refrigerated and frozen items, as well as personal products when available. The truck visits community access points in both a scheduled and pop-up fashion, and volunteers help distribute food to families in need.
According to recent data from Feeding America, prior to COVID-19 there were approximately 105,000 food-insecure Delawareans. At the height of the pandemic it is estimated that more than 140,000 of our neighbors struggled with food insecurity. Now that we are in recovery, Feeding America estimates that there are more than 114,000 food-insecure Delawareans.
