Over the years, vinyl records went from the most popular item to buy after school, to being outdated by CD’s, to a collector’s item hoping to one day be worth some money, then to repeating history where record players made a comeback and teenagers started to listen to their parents’ collection. And now, as of lately, limited release vinyl records from even small bands are going for over ten times their original retail price.
Turnstile, an American heavy rock band from Baltimore, Maryland, released their album ‘Glow On’ back on August 27, 2021. Along with the digital release, they also released different variants and styles of limited edition vinyl records. Some of these are now going for close to 100 times what they were originally priced at. All the vinyl records the band released are now sold out.
Whether these will be eventually bought at this price, no one knows quite yet. The lowest price seen online is an average $150.00.
Other modern bands and music artists, such as Glass Animals, are experiencing the same hype. ‘Dreamland’ released over 2 years ago, is still incredibly difficult to find on vinyl due to the limited amount produced. Our guess is that this will continue with limited edition releases, and especially as more young music listeners continue to buy record players. It may be safe to say vinyls are back!
