The Mix Morning Show Jumpstart Song: Dancing In The Streets – Mick Jagger & David Bowie
Jessie Jordan selected “Dancing in the Streets” as today’s jumpstart song! Today in 1963, The Rolling Stones played at the Ricky Tick Club, Star and Garter Hotel, Windsor Berks. The 60’s rhythm and blues clue was known for many massive acts coming through at the time. They included: Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Cream, and Pink Floyd.
“Dancing in the Streets” was originally recorded in 1964 by Martha and the Vandellas. However, it was written by Marvin Gaye, William Stevenson, and Ivy Jo Hunter. The Jagger and Bowie cover was released in 1985. All of the profits from the single went to Live Aid. They were supposed perform the song while Bowie was at Wembley Stadium and Jagger was at the John F. Kennedy Stadium for the Live Aid event. When they discovered the satellite delay would make it so one of them would have to lip sync, the idea was scratched entirely.
