New York Times Posts Fake Article, Then Deletes It
The New York Times either had a huge sense of humor or made a mistake this past Tuesday. The paper had posted an article with the title, “Fields of Watermelons Found On Mars, Police Say.” The author of the article was “Joe Schmoe”, which should have made readers immediately question the article’s legitimacy.
The subheading for the article even read, “authorities say the rise of fruit aliens is to blame for glut of outer space watermelons.” The article didn’t even last a full hour on their site. They say that the article was an error and was only published as part of a “testing system.” Twitter has been having a lot of fun mocking the article and wondering if it was really all just a joke.
