TikTok Trending Protein Coffee Could Do More Harm Than Good
Protein coffee has been trending on TikTok, but doctors are warning that we need to monitor our in-take if we are mixing caffeine and protein powder into our morning routine. Users who are making the drinks are calling them “Profee.” They are recording videos of their own recipes, typically taking something like a large Starbucks espresso and mixing it with protein powder.
Doctors are saying most of us get the protein we need through the day. Adding in protein powder to coffee could create a sugar overload. If you are going to add protein to your coffee it’s important to make sure the powder itself is unsweetened. According to FoxNews.com, the excess caffeine can cause heart arrhythmias, dehydration, and elevated blood pressure.
