Retired Astronaut Plans Private Trip to Space at 61 Years Old, Because It’s “Like an Addiction”
Peggy Whitson holds the record for most time spent in outer space out of any other human on the planet. Now, she is retired, but longing to return to the black abyss.
Whitson, 61 years old now, has stated she is planning a private trip to outer space, stating, “It’s a little bit of an addiction.” She wants “many more — more and more and more and more; as many as I can get.”
The former astronaut has spent a total of 665 days in space already, which is just shy of two entire years.
A company in Houston which arranges commercial flights to space will help Peggy make this all possible. Whitson will pilot a mission, “which could be among the first privately funded civilian missions to space to launch from US soil.” according to CNN.
Accompanying her on her mission will be John Shoffner, who has over 8,500 flight hours in multiple aircraft.
