On this day in 1983 Duran Duran had the number one single with “The Reflex.” As one of the early MTV bands their flashy presence helped transform pop music. At first their popularity grew in the UK before they ever had a number one single in the US. Their sophomore album which featured “Hungry Like The Wolf” only peaked at #3 on the billboard charts in 1982.
Their third studio album Seven and The Ragged Tiger originally featured two singles. “Union of the Snake” and “New Moon On Monday” were the only two songs intended to be singles. However, “The Reflex” has become their biggest hit. The song was so popular it even knocked Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing In The Dark” and Prince’s “When Doves Cry” out of the #1 spot.
