Why Do Teenagers Mumble?
Teenagers are always getting harassed for their one word answers and strange noises. It turns out it might not be all their fault. According to Daily.Mail.co.uk, boys’ brains develop language skills later than girls and all that mumbling could simply be due to wiring in their brains.
A 2016 study also found that men have a smaller jaw opening. Women also open their mouths more widely when speaking than men. This allows they to have better pronunciation of low vowel sounds that tend to get mumbled by men.
Dr. Genevieve von Lob, also adds that mumbling is most likely a results of hormonal changes. They are at a point in their lives where they would like to be more private. They might not want to talk as a way to be more private and independent.
