Study Finds Women Feel It Is A “Risk” To Let Grey Hair Show
Apparently women view showing their grey hair as a “risk”, that may or may not be worth it in order to feel authentic. The University of Exeter had researchers survey women who decide to keep their hair grey and found that there was a “conflict” between having a natural look and being seen as “competent.”
According to EurekAlert.com, the leader of the study, Vanessa Cecil characterizes “The old woman” as an undesirable person in Western society. Yet they are still held to the standard to somehow still maintain the look of their youth. Many women who have decided to make the switch from dyed hair to keeping it natural have reported feeling ignored but also happy to be “natural.”
From the lockdowns many men and women have decided to let their hair grey since they have been spending less time in public and it has also been more difficult to get a hair appointment. So the pandemic itself has played a great part in women deciding to not dye their hair.
