The Powerpuff Girls Live-Action Reboot: Cast Revealed
Cartoon Network’s beloved super-girl trio has been brought to life! The CW has cast Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault to star in the network’s live-action adaptation of the animated Powerpuff Girls series.
Ordered to pilot last month, the drama revolves around the Powerpuff Girls who are now “disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bennet will play Blossom Utonium, who was a brainiac leader of the group. Her repressed child superhero trauma has left her feeling anxious and reclusive, but aims to become a leader again on her own terms. Bennet is best known for her role on ABC’s Nashville.
Cameron is set to play the role of Bubbles Utonium, who was known as America’s childhood sweetheart. As an adult, she’s initially more interested in recapturing her fame than saving the world.
Perrault rounds out the cast as Buttercup Utonium, who was the sporty rebel of the trio super-girls. In her adulthood, Buttercup has been trying to shed her Powerpuff Girl identity and live an anonymous life. Perrault was most recently seen on Broadway in the Alanis Morissette musical Jagged Little Pill.
The casting reunites Cameron and Bennet, who previously worked together on ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
The upcoming CW series is written by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier and directed by Maggie Kiley.
