Experts Say Lunch Should Be The Biggest Meal Of The Day
In America we tend to save our biggest meal until the end of the day. Experts are now telling us instead of dinner, we should make sure our biggest meal is lunch. According to Huffpost.com, Patrick Okolo III, chief gastroenterology for Rochester Regional Health, says its important to look at what happens to our digestive systems when our largest meal is the latest. He also says we do not metabolize food the same at night due to the body’s natural rhythm.
Having your largest meal at night could also lead to issues while sleeping such as acid reflux and other digestive problems. Research shows that at one point in America lunch was our largest meal, this changed with busy work schedules. When people began traveling farther and working longer days it no longer made sense to go home for a big lunch in the middle of the day. Naturally that would move the big meal to night time when everyone is home. Okolo says that now since everyone has such different schedules we should plan our biggest meal around the time of day we are the most active.
