Cigarette Sales Flattened In 2020
According to the America Lung Association smoking can cause some of the most severe symptoms when someone has COVID-19. Ironically 2020 seems to be the year some of decided to revisit the habit. The Wall Street Journal notes that sales have been on the decline for decades, dropping 5.5% in 2019 alone.
The discovery of sales flattening comes from statistics released by Atria Group, who own the Marlboro cigarette brand. According to CNBC.com, this means that while every other year saw a decline, 2020’s sales remained the same. Atria Group says that stresses of the pandemic may have tempted people to smoke. It could also be people stuck inside with more free time along with extra cash that would normally go towards leisure activity.
E-cigarette smokes are also turning away from their vapes and going back to traditional smoking. Even though experts still believe vaping can be slightly less detrimental to your health.
