Do Women Find Men With Cats In Their Dating Profile Attractive?
While making your online dating profile, the objective is to highlight the best qualities in hopes of finding someone that’s interested in what you have to offer. You may try and show your hobbies, passions, job, as well as likes and dislikes. You could even throw in a picture of you and your pet because who doesn’t love a compassionate person who loves animals, right?!
Well, research as found that something interesting happens when a heterosexual man has a picture of a cat on his dating profile. Researchers from two universities showed women photos of men with cats and without cats and asked them to rate the guys in terms of masculinity, femininity, and dateability.
Most of the women all found the men holding cats to be more neurotic, agreeable, open, less extroverted, and less masculine. Which is certainly strange in contradiction to studies that found that men with pets had more potential in relationships. According to yahoo.com, its all of the old cultural norms at work here. Cat owners are seen as majority female and when a male poses with one they are seen as more feminine as well.
However, women who considered themselves “cat people” were more likely to still consider the men pictured with cats as good potential dates. Keep in mind this study was done with college students and only sampled heterosexual women from the ages of 18 to 24.
