Dry Cleaners Crushed By New Dress Code
As Americans continue to work for home, one business we may not have paid a visit for the last few months is our dry cleaner. According to Bloomberg reports, one in six dry cleaning businesses have closed or have gone bankrupt. The reason for the major tolls in their business all come down to people’s new at home dress codes. People are now more likely to work in their sweatpants and pajamas while they continue to work from home.
Dry cleaners also make a majority of their profit from people attending special social events. With many parties and events cancelled due to COVID, there is no need to get your best outfit ready for a night out. In order to survive the times many dry cleaners have begun offering pickup and delivery services. They have also started helping with hospital laundry and offering new services such has comforter and curtain cleaning.
Richard Bayliss who owns Nu-Way Cleaners & Tailors in New York claims to be doing about 45% of usual business right now. He also pleads that companies incorporate a dress code into their zoom meetings!
