Local Delaware Fire Company Wins National Award
The Clayton Fire Company won the 2020 Paul Sarbanes National Fire Safety Award. They scooped up the honor for making cancer prevention and awareness a major priority for their firefighters. The award is usually presented in Washington D.C, however this year it was presented at the Clayton Fire Company with Governor Carney there in attendance.
According to DelawareStateNews.com, Clayton Fire Company has taken extra in cancer prevention through their equipment. Due to the nature of their work there are numerous risk factors. For that reason the Clayton Fire Company has purchased particulate hoods for each firefighter. They have also gotten special washers to clean their uniforms and other gear.
Fire Company President Kevin Wilson said its all to keep their staff safe. They always look at the crew as their most valuable asset. The award itself is named after Maryland Senator Paul Sarbanes and recognizes firefighter
