Amazon Looking to Turn Sears and JC Penney Stores into Fulfillment Centers
Remember malls? As retailers go out of business, it may seem that malls are becoming a thing of the past. Amazon may breathe new life into mall properties across the country. The Wall Street Journal says Amazon executives are in talks with mall-owner Simon Property Group to turn some of the country’s closed Sears and JC Penney stores into fulfillment centers. It could be a win-win! As more retailers close throughout the U.S., Amazon could bring jobs back to some of the retailers’ former employees. It could also mean that you would get that Amazon package delivered even faster! While Reuters reports that Simon Property Group owned 108 malls in the country as of 2016, the Wall Street Journal couldn’t confirm how many stores are being considered by Amazon as fulfillment centers. Simon Property Group owns the King Of Prussia Mall and the Dover Mall.
