The Food Bank of DE is Looking For Backyard Gardeners To Donate Surplus Harvest to Help Those in Need
The Food Bank of Delaware is teaming up with the Delaware Center for Horticulture for the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society’s Harvest 2020 efforts. The two organizations are working to provide more healthy food to those in need. They are encouraging gardeners who have a surplus to donate what they can so they can distribute to those in need. Fellow Delawareans need more help than ever before. An additional 50,000 people than previously anticipated are facing food insecurities this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Food Bank of Delaware already distributes roughly two million pounds of fresh produce each year. They look to increase that effort annually, especially this year.
