Do You Know the Hidden Meaning of These 10 Emojis?
Emojis. What started out as simple text symbols may actually mean something different than you think. Celebrate World Emoji day on July 17th by learning the hidden meaning of these popular emojis and who knows, you may even impress your kids by being in the know.
Goat
- The goat emoji (yes, goat as in the farm animal) is often used as to represent the acronym GOAT, which stands for Greatest Of All Time. Though often used to denote the best athletes and musicians in their fields, if someone sends you one of these you know to take it as a complement.
Clapping Hands
- As one of the more basic emojis, the clapping hands icon can be used to applaud what someone says. However, when used in excess this emoji is also a passive aggressive way of emphasizing something that someone stubborn just can’t seem to get though their head. Some people these days.
Shooting Star Face
- This one is pretty cute, right? Well, the shooting star emoji doesn’t always symbolize magic and good fortune. In fact, many people use it as a “dizzy” symbol, meaning that they may have had a little too much to drink last night.
Avocado
- If you’ve kept up with the times at all, you’d know that avocado toast is a pretty popular dish among millennials. This being said, the emoji of everyone’s favorite source of healthy fats is also used to describe anything overly “basic”, like Ugg boots or a white chocolate mocha latte from Starbucks. Yikes.
Frog
- Yet another emoji who’s meaning isn’t as cut and dry as it may seem. While sometimes used to denote mischief, this one (especially when paired with the teacup emoji) means “but that’s none of my business” in reference to a popular Kermit the Frog meme that’s made its way around the internet. Let’s face it though, you’re about to make it your business.
Peach
- Chances are you already know what this one means. The peach emoji, or more commonly known as the butt emoji, is often used to denote someone’s rear end. I mean c’mon, this one actually makes sense.
New Moon Face
- By this point you’ve probably guessed that the new moon face emoji isn’t just used to represent one of the phases of the moon. This icon is more commonly used to depict someone “throwing shade” or to express disapproval and irony.
Ok Hand Sign
- If you look closely, you’ll be able to that there’s just a ~little~ bit of room between the thumb and pointer finger in this emoji. And yes, that was intentional. Though at first glance it looks this hand looks like a symbol for “that’s good” or “perfect”, it can actually be used to indicate that someone is very close to losing their patience with you. Beware the hand sign!
Nail Polish
- The nail polish emoji can be more than a subtle flex to show that you just took a trip to the salon. It’s often used to indicate sass, nonchalance, and convey an “I’m not bothered” attitude. Who knew an emoji could be such a symbol of indifference?
Eggplant
- Last but certainly not least we have the infamous eggplant emoji. Known for being one of the raunchier icons on the emoji keyboard, if you take a good look you can probably figure this one out for yourself…
