Beyoncé’s “Black Is King” Visual Album Set for Release on Disney+ July 31
A visual album executive produced, written and directed by Beyoncé will debut on Disney+ on July 31, according to a press release.
The news came just a month after rumors circulated that the 24-time Grammy-winning artist struck a $100 million deal with Disney. The partnership entailed the production of three films.
Beyoncé and Disney’s joint media company, Parkwood Entertainment, released the teaser video online June 27.
“This visual album from Beyoncé reimagines the lessons of ‘The Lion King’ for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns,” states the press release.
“The voyages of Black families, throughout time, are honored in a tale about a young king’s transcendent journey through betrayal, love and self-identity. His ancestors help guide him toward his destiny, and with his father’s teachings and guidance from his childhood love, he earns the virtues needed to reclaim his home and throne.”
The film is set to premiere just on the one-year anniversary of Disney’s “The Lion King” reboot, which featured Beyoncé as the voice of Nala. She also recorded a companion album “The Lion King: The Gift” as well as a documentary of her creation process titled “Beyoncé Presents: Making the Gift.”
