‘Wine Fairies’ Have Been Gifting Wine And Treats to Neighbors and Strangers In Many States…
Remember the old game ding dong ditch? Here’s a movement of neighborly kindness that puts a sweet twist on the old prank. Mysterious groups of do-gooders known as “wine fairies” have been leaving booze and treats on random people’s doorsteps. A mom who wanted to spread a little joy to her friends, neighbors and even strangers by dropping off bottles on wine on the doorstep, founded the Facebook group “Sisterhood of the Traveling Wine.” Hundreds of other “wine fairy” Facebook groups with as many as 78,000 members have appeared across the US. The magical fairies collect addresses of wine lovers in their communities and ask which varieties of wine they like. The members dress up in wings, tutus, and wands as they deliver gifts the stoop. They ring the door bell and run for cover.
Cara Rindell, who brought the movement to her home in Raleigh says “It’s all about bringing others happiness and making new relationships. It starts off as a random act of kindness to a stranger and becomes a friendship with the neighbor you didn’t know you had.” Her chapter has over 51,000 members and 3,000 are on the waiting list. Wine fairies are in ten states and they want to launch to all 50 states. Eventually, they want to find ways to include children to grandparents.
Of course I checked. There is indeed a “Sisterhood of the Traveling Wine” Group for New Castle County!
