Best Practices and Products for Summer Skincare
Now that things are getting back to normal and summer is in full swing it is time to correct bad quarantine habits such as improper skincare. It’s important to adapt season to season in regard to a skincare routine because the environment/ seasons around us are also adapting to temperature changes. First off, know your skin. And also, take into account what works, what doesn’t work, what products you like, and how they react to your skin type. The summer skincare routine needs to be a balance of preventing breakouts and lessen sun damage. Explore products that do BOTH; while not breaking the bank or worsening your skin.
Key Notes for Summer Skin Guidelines:
- Skincare in the summer should be lightweight.
- Moisturizers should be doing double duty. It should moisturize your skin while having SPF in it to lessen the number of products used on your skin. SPF should always be 30 or higher.
- Vitamin C is the key! Helps with discoloration and hyperpigmentation.
- Exfoliate! To help skin cells resurface and deep clean pores.
- Don’t “over shower”. With complete access to the beach, pool, etc, showering should be between 4-5 minutes in cool-warm water to prevent over-drying and major inflammation.
- Focus on the labels! Skincare bought in the summer AND year-round should be non-comedogenic to prevent pore-clogging (which leads to breakouts).
- As much as you may want to have fun in the sun, opt for some time in the shade to minimize sun exposure and sun damage to your skin.
- DRINK WATER!!
- SPF overload! You can never have too little.
