Couple Celebrates Their Wedding While Protesting In Philadelphia
Over the weekend, we saw peaceful protests around the country and around the world. As thousands of demonstrators marched the streets of Philadelphia on Saturday to protest racial injustice and police brutality in the wake of George Floyd’s death, Dr. Kerry Anne Perkins and Michael Gordon tied the knot inside the Logan Hotel. They stepped outside to join the protests in honor of George Floyd. The newlyweds were greeted with applause and cheers from thousands of fellow protesters. The crowd parted ways for the couple, who posed for some photos to capture their special day. Then they joined the march along the Ben Franklin Parkway as the crowd marched towards City Hall.
The couple postponed their wedding celebration to 2021 due to COVID-19, but still wanted to be married. They didn’t let anything stand in their way. The video has since gone viral and Dr. Kerry Anne told ABC news, it ended up being a very powerful moment. “Not only are we feeling the movement of the people … but I’m meeting my husband, on our wedding day, as a strong black man and a good representative of who we are as people, what our men are like, what our culture is like. It was just a very, very empowering moment for us considering all of this is happening at one moment in one time.”
