12 Year Old Boy Recovering After Possible Shark Attack In Cape Henlopen
A 12-year-old boy in Lewes is recovering from a possible shark attack. According to officials, the child suffered puncture wounds to one of his legs after surfing off Herring Point just before 1 p.m. on Thursday (June 4). The incident was first reported as a shark bite. State and fisheries experts are reviewing the appearance of the bite mark. They will determine if it is from a shark or potentially another creature. Cape Henlopen State Park Beaches are now closed for surfing and swimming until further notice. DNREC Natural Resource Police Park Rangers and lifeguards are warning beach goers in the area to stay in shallow water. “Shark attacks are rare and the only known shark bite at a Delaware State Park beach occurred in June 2014” said DNREC
