While many seniors are forced to wait out the coronavirus outbreaks in isolation, several have found comfort and company through the airwaves. Radio Recliner is an online pirate radio station hosted exclusively by elder DJ’s from assisted living communities across the country. Back in April, the project was launched by marketing firm Luckie to keep lonely seniors entertained and optimistic during the pandemic. The original plan was to air a new 60 minute show every day for a month. The station has gained listeners and attracted a team of 18 senior DJ’s to continue recording new segments. New shows air every day at noon and the station streams a continuous loop of old content. On their website, listeners can submit song requests and shot outs to friends and family members.
