Local Girl Raises Money To Buy Toys For Kids At AI Dupont Hospital For Children
7 year old Piper Yates is a second grader a Chesapeake City Elementary School. She wanted to bring comfort to the kids at Nemours AI Dupont Hospital for Children. Piper sat at the end of her driveway with her acoustic guitar and sang. She put out her gold sparkly hat that served as a collection bucket. Her mom snapped a photo of her daughter and posted it on her facebook page, not to solicit, but to show off the adorable scene to friends and family. Word spread about Piper’s efforts and contributions started coming in from friends, family and the community. Just one week into her charity campaign, Piper raise more than $7,500 to buy toys for the patients at the hospital. Most people who have donated have never even met Piper.
