Selena Gomez Is Suing A Gaming Company: Here’s Why
Selena Gomez is taking legal action against the software and technology firm behind the Clothes Forever – Styling Games app. According to documents obtained by E! News, she is going after them for using her name, image, likeness without her permission. They add, “she believes the game threatens her reputation since it is a ‘bug-riddled’ app that charges users.”
Alex Weingarten, Gomez’s lawyer, spoke to the outlet and said, “Selena Gomez’s career as a model, actress, musician, and entrepreneur has made Selena a household name. Forgame, Mutanbox, and these other fly-by-night video game developers have attempted to profit off of Selena’s signature look by misappropriating her likeness and inviting players to style Selena without her consent.” He added, “Selena Gomez is a style icon. This is an egregious violation of Selena’s rights, which we will litigate vigorously to vindicate.”
In the lawsuit filing, Gomez is asking to be granted damages for “intentional and despicable misappropriation of her public stature.” She’s also requesting a share of any profit made, and for the company to cease their illegal activity.
