The popular and yearly anticipated St. Anthony’s Italian Festival in Wilmington, Delaware has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus.
This is the first time the event has not happened in 50 years. Festival organizers issued out a statement on Facebook, that the Italian Festival that id held in June, would be cancelled. This statement was made after much thought and discussion to ensure the safety of organizers, patrons, volunteers, festival goers, and anyone who would attend the festival.
The event was originally scheduled for June 7-14, 2020, and is always anticipated by just about everyone in Wilmington and the surrounding areas. The celebration consists of Italian food and culture. Organizers are considering holding a much smaller scale festival in late September, but nothing is confirmed just yet. They have also stated they will need variious fundraisers in place in 2020 in order to make up for a projected shortfall in funds for the St. Anthony’s parish, and grade school.
