A Facebook Sewing Group Has Created Thousands Of Masks For Delaware Healthcare Workers
BERLIN, GERMANY - MARCH 24: Protective masks and sewing machine of Pia Fischer, berlin fashion designer, are set on table on March 24, 2020 in Schöneberg district Berlin, Germany. Fischer decided to sew protective masks instead of making clothes and other designs. "Yesterday I worked till 2am," she says while sewing white masks and serving customers through the window in her closed store. In the time of Coronavirus Crisis she sells them to people who stop by for 5 euros. (Photo by Maja Hitij/Getty Images)
Kristin Barnekov-Short started a mission right here in Delaware to help our local medical professionals in the fight against Coronavirus. Her daughter, Rowan, is a nurse at Beebee Healthcare in Lewes. She started a Facebook group called Help for Healthcare Workers in Delaware with her friend Kerry. Within a week, the group had more than 800 members, but as of today (3/27/20) there are almost 1300 members. All of the members are sewing and donating masks with different materials like cotton and flannel.
