Governor Carney Allows Take-Out Alcohol for Certain Establishments in New Modifications to Emergency Declaration
Governor John Carney has issued a second modification to his emergency declaration that results in take out alcohol for certain food and drink establishments. The new modification allows any restaurant, tavern or taproom with a valid on-premise license to sell alcoholic beverages as part of transactions for take out food or drive-through food service. Alcohol sales cannot exceed 40 percent of the total sales transaction. All other rules and regulations regarding the take-out of alcoholic beverages apply, including the containers must be securely closed. These alcoholic beverages cannot be consumed on the premises, neither indoors nor outdoors. This new modification goes into effect at 8:00 pm March 18, 2020 and will last until the State of Emergency ends.
The other updates and new procedures coming from Governor John Carney require the closing of bowling alleys, movie theaters, fitness centers and health spas to help prevent the spread of the virus in Delaware. Any business remaining open is strongly encouraged to have hand sanitizer for all employees and patrons, or some sort of hand washing station. Gaming activity in casinos is also closed during this period.
